Observer: What made you decide to open a business in Redford?
Howard Halpern: I've been in the wholesale fish business for many years. I was long aware of this location and when the owners decided to close, I decided to open my own store. It is nice to get out of the truck and work with customers. We've already met dozens of wonderful Redford residents.
Observer: What makes your business unique?
Howard Halpern: Our business is family owned. Grandpa Halpern was in the fish business, my father was in the fish business, and I carried on the tradition. All we know is Fish!
Observer: Do you have a funny tidbit or story to share with our readers about your experience so far as a small business owner?
Howard Halpern: One afternoon we had a very nice 84 year- old- lady stop into the store looking for oysters. She wanted them in the worst way. We had plenty of oysters in the case, showed them to her and she said "Cook me up some!". So, we cooked them and put them in a carry- out container for her. We don't have tables and chairs for dine in and she couldn't wait until she got to her car and started eating them in the store from the counter and she LOVED every one!
